Villa terrace built for dining
A wide paved terrace with nothing on it, set up for eating outdoors most of the year.

These are design concepts created to show what's possible — not photographs of completed client projects.
Objective
Make outdoor dining the default rather than an occasional effort.
The challenge
The terrace faces the afternoon sun with no cover, so it was unusable exactly when people wanted to use it. A bare planting edge made it feel unfinished.
Design direction
A slatted pergola over the dining zone only — enough shade to make the table usable without darkening the whole terrace. Planting fills the bare edge and softens the boundary with the garden. A lounge corner so the space works before and after the meal.
Selected materials
- Slatted timber pergola
- Solid teak dining table and woven chairs
- Structured planting in low rendered planters
- Potted olive trees
- Warm downlighting within the pergola
